Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn responded to repeated vandalism of their Black Lives Matter and Pride flags by creating larger, more prominent versions. These 12.5 x 9.5-foot flags, displayed with verses from Amos and Corinthians, highlight the church’s commitment to justice and inclusion.

The BLM flag: “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” Amos 5:24

Pride flag:“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

Church members fundraised to install the flags out of reach, turning an act of opposition into an opportunity for advocacy and community engagement. New York Attorney General Letitia James attended the dedication, celebrating the church’s longstanding role in social justice. She said the flags are, “Symbols of love and acceptance and respect and inclusion that have exhibited in this neighborhood and this church for over a century.”
