Hilda O. Wins Best Documentary; Heads to Athena and Miami Film Festivals
[March 1, 2026] — Picture Projects is proud to announce that our latest short documentary, “Hilda O. vs. The State of New York,” has been awarded Best Documentary at the 2025 New York State International Film Festival.
The film, co-directed by Alison Cornyn and Heather Greer, continues its social impact tour with several high-profile screenings this spring. We are honored to be an Official Selection at the 16th Annual Athena Film Festival at Barnard College (March 6–8, 2026), where the film will anchor a critical conversation on women’s leadership and justice. Following our New York premiere, the film travels to the Miami Film Festival in April 2026.
A Collaborative Effort for Justice
This project grew out of our long-term transmedia work, Incorrigibles, which has been made possible through the generous support of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and Humanities New York.
By highlighting Hilda Onley’s 60-year journey to hold the state accountable under the Child Victims Act, we aim to influence the national dialogue around ending girls’ incarceration, ending statutes of limitation for sex abuse, and ending child sex abuse in institutions, especially those where there are imbalances of power, such as prisons and schools.
Upcoming Screenings:
- Athena Film Festival: March 7, 2026 @ 6:00 PM (Held Auditorium, NYC)
- Miami Film Festival: April 9–19, 2026 (Official Selection)
- Past Festivals: Raindance (World Premiere), St. Louis International, and Byron Bay International.
